Wayne Rooney Shirt Raises €1,350

Limassol Coeur de Lion, Lions Club

Saturday 12th December at a packed auction Saleroom at Castle Auctions in Limassol the room held it’s collective breath at 12 o’clock for lot 200, the signed Wayne Rooney shirt being auctioned to raise funds for our Lions Club.

There was a brief pause as auction staff assembled near the rostrum to handle live telephone bids to the mix of bidders in the room and those who had left bids with the auctioneer, Duncan Wills as book bids.

The shirt had a start price of €100 and had attracted a lot of interest in the preceding weeks with an island wide marketing campaign in English, Greek and Russian!

The book bids were worked out and the bidding began in the room at €480. Then between the telephone bidders and the customers in the room the price rose to €800 before 3 live bidders were left. They fought it out to €920 when the third bidder had enough and dropped out leaving 2 bidders to battle it out.

The price kept rising, both bidders fiercely determined until it reached €1200! There was a pause for breath, and then a last rally saw the price reach €1350!

The winner of the shirt was a wonderful lady called Tereza who had bought the shirt as a present for a life long friend and massive fan of Manchester United. She was delighted to have won the shirt and to have helped ‘such a good charitable organisation’.

President of the Coeur de Lion, Lions Club, John Young, pictured with Tereza, was there to witness the excitement and to thank Tereza in person for her kindness and generosity in bidding so much.

The club would like to thank everyone who took part and bid on the shirt and helped to create such an exciting auction for good causes. 100% of the proceeds will go to the club which is an entirely voluntary organisation.
